The Search for Our New Vicar

Our Vicar, Father Hugh Bowron, retired at Easter 2010.

We will update this page periodically to keep you all up to date with the search for his replacement.

Status of the search

Update July 2021

18thThe Parish Nominators announced the appointment of the Reverend John Graveston to fill the interregnum for 3 months from August to October. John is currently the Diocesan Child Youth & Family Educator and assistant priest at All Saints', Dunedin. He is married and was raised in Christchurch where he attended St Michael's school and parish. He was ordained last year.

The Bishop will act as Priest-in-Charge while John gains experience of running a parish.

We will be interviewing the candidates for the permanent position in August or September.

1st Applications are closed, with a small flurry of last-minute submissions.

Update June 2021

Applications close at the end of this month, after which the Parish Nominators will begin the selection process with the aim of identifying a suitable candidate to present to the Diocesan Nominators and Bishop.

Update April 2021

On Easter Day Father Hugh took his final Services. The following week Father David Tannock arrived to assume duties as interim priest. On his first Sunday with us he was joined in celebrating Sunday Services by the Bishop. The following week he began his sole charge stint with Services including our sung Evensong and Benediction.

The nominators extended the closing date for applications to 30 June to allow all those who have expressed interest to submit applications. They also arranged for our Church Times advertisement to run for the longer period allowed by the initial agreement.

Update March 2021

Bishop Steven has approved the appointment of the Reverend David Tannock as temporary priest of Saint Peter's for two months following the retirement of Father Hugh Bowron at Easter.

After that time Father James Harding will take over if further cover is required.

This Situations Vacant advertisement was placed in the Church Times and in diocesan websites throught New Zealand.

Update December 2020

A meeting of parishioners approved a Parish Profile and a Vicar Profile suggested by the Parish Nominators. The documents were subsequently presented to the Bishop and will form the basis for the search for our new Vicar.
