Vicar Search: The Selection Process

The procedure for appointment of a Parish Priest is described in the Diocese’s Statute 4. In essence, it provides for an appointment to be made by The Bishop in consultation with eight nominators - four each from the Diocese (elected by the Synod) and from the Parish (elected by the Vestry).

The basic responsibility of Diocesan nominators is to look at any effects any appointment may have on the Diocese as a whole.

The basic responsibility of Parish nominators is to find a Priest who will suit the congregation and its habits.
